The combination of organic and inorganic semiconductors can be the secret to maximize solar cells efficiency of more than 95%. In fact, mixing material such as pentacene ( an organic semiconductor ) with silicon can allow the transfer of the energy contained in particles called dark spin-triplet excitons. Excitons are generated as part of photosynthesis process in nature. The team at Cambridge University is conducting study on how to develop these hybrid solar cells and break through the limit in efficiency.
